The floating island has moved. From broken accelerated beats to deep house. Solitude is XRS Land first EP on this new path. It is the result of a music production rerouting. The ambiences and melodies have the scent of fading away: elusive, airy, blue, and at the same time very evolving.
The young paulistana Lika Marques crossed the Atlantic and lived in the UK for a couple of years. This trajectory, up and north, then back down to the tropics, debugged her forever. Away from her homeland, she found her breakbeats coming from inside, head and heart. Back home, she sends these sounds back to where they’re from: deep in the underground.
Someday they will come. An island is not real until the pirates come. We hope there is a DJ among them, mixing old with new, sweet with sour, bubbles with quotes, and, minimally, two letters of the alphabet. (Inspired on ”Divagações Sobre Ilhas” of Carlos Drummond de Andrade).
The indians, on their fight for existence, left the forest, seeking new ways of elevation. Some reached the desert of big cities and became urban: they now ride the wildness of the gray jungles, but still fear the oblivion. They don’t sleep, wondering and looking for their roots, singing silently to the ancient spirits.
He received a phone call during the night. She was anxious. Needed to talk to him. “Ever dream this man?” That man seemed to be the key element of the puzzle. He was in the very center of our minds. I don’t remember if I had seen him. At that time, in my bed, the difference between dream and day was vanishing. And the question seemed absurd to me. But, even though, I could feel something strange oscillating inside me. An ocean of sound waves. I am sure it reverberated through and out of time.

Love is a wild bird. Everlasting, never outdated. Heard on tragic melodies, colored in the low frequencies of red. It feels like death. “L’amour, l’amour t’attend!”
Colorful people on the dancefloors, at total control. Smiles all over. Night is nature turned upside down. After the next drop you can be shouting: “God is a DJ”!
“Science fiction” is Tenorio’s debut album, a true breakbeat lover. Inside his very real though invented world, Tenorio is a lion, left in a steel bubble floating erratically after the year of 3030. The bubble has mirror walls, so he sees unending lions while awake. The repetition caused by these walls, added to the absence of life, is only softened when he’s asleep. Then he sees the jungle, the sky and the red sand of Africa. All this is forgotten by awakening, eluded by the silence and the solitude of immortality. “There is nothing that is not lost between infatuated mirrors. Nothing can occur only once, nothing is preciously precarious.”
XRS Land is on fire. From petrol stations to live explosions. Mix of heavy bass and melting melodies. The metallic taste of speed, the imaginary vision of dinosaurs in the form of pure fuel. Love lasts.The final run is coming.
This single is special. It is the first of a series of collaborations between Tupy’s founders Heliponto and XRS. There were many before us. And many more will come after. What will remain are the sounds recorded, ideas and feelings imprinted on them. Some ghosts from Black Gold Rich Village have whispered these melodies to us.

Tupy celebrates its first birthday with a precious jewel as its next release. Featuring historical and yet unreleased tracks, the history of Brazilian jungle can be seen here paying tribute to its origin: the UK. With an original sound featuring remnants of the solid steel and concrete from São Paulo’s tropical urban jungle, the brothers of Drumagick followed the path of their heroes. In the middle of the road, there was some odd sounds, samba and its variations. Voices of the real jungle, wild animals, reminding you of the everyday fight for survival.
XRS Land is a place where emotions become characters, and melodies imprint color and temperature to objects of our daily life. A sunflower divided between the sun and the moon, burning of love. The winter is always blue, although scenarios and hearts might be on fire, red and gold. Drum patterns are the background for water oscillations. Journeys from south to north, underwater, through our beloved oceans, bring the present of our life, of the mud of which we are made.
Mandinga is the alter ego of oscilloID, two aliases of the musician Lucas de Miranda Vieira. As an opposite of oscilloID, oscillation, Mandinga doesn’t move. Time transits around Mandinga. Original from Northern Africa, he knows the winds of the nights in the desert. The wind whispers on Mandinga’s ears static grooves, dramatic patterns and melodies, in many tempos. His past lies on the other side of the ocean, the time of outrora, when Mandinga was the light in the Brazilian forests. Back then he carried his God wherever he went. We met Mandinga around a forest right here, in Belo Horizonte. He was going East, he said.
Tchilli Rodriguez is the pseudonym of the Brazilian musician and computer instrumentalist Tiago de Macedo, product of his various musical faces. Influenced by today’s avant-garde, jazz, funk, post rock and contemporary electronic movements, Tchilli Rodriguez’ work is marked by witty ambiances that give to the listener’s mind place for unusual synesthetic associations: walking around clouds blankets pillows white dreams, melancholy in bossa nova and jazz, istorias of before mixed with memories of waking up every morning, of the bravery of every act. Tupy label founder Heliponto makes her debut album with Eletronia, a delicious trip throughout techno-influenced samba. The TR-909s and 606s keep the groove steady, while the bellybutton-bump is not left aside. Pleasing melodies, textures and ambiences are carefully mixed and conducted with bit precision over the green copper circuitry by the digital sambaschool master Luciana da Costa Amorim. Featuring collaboration with label partner XRS and participations of RBMA worldwide mates David Ryshpan, Mara TK and Juan Manuel Torreblanca, Eletronia is revealed as an enchanting landscape of sound pixels. Words float around with Brazilian poetry and the tropical cliché is broken down to a beautiful feeling of blue. Is it the new world of samba? The discovery has just began and the green metal is made to last.
Tupy’s label boss XRS features on TP004 with two precious tracks. Composed over the past three years, these tunes have made a long, slow way across oceans before settling down to fabulous grooves and the delicacy of samba melody themes. Blue fairy is the universe of dreams, of what is yet to come, of what, although known from advance, is still non-expected. Supernova is a futuristic samba love song dedicated to, well, you gotta learn Portuguese! Every start has an end. And every end is the start of something new. Like a supernova, the end of tension is the birth of a star.
Tiago Diniz (A.K.A. Talis) is one of the hidden treasures Tupy is revealing. Living in Rio de Janeiro, he began djing in 1998, influenced by new sonorities coming from the UK. Roni Size & Reprazent, Adam F and LTJ Bukem had a huge effect on his musical path. In 2000 Talis started his own electronic music project, Peixe Kru (a neologism of raw fish in Portuguese). With an unique style of Drum and Bass, he transits around other rhythms, such as tribal, blues and bossa nova, creating particular atmospheric sonorities. The result is very original soundscapes, transporting the listener to the top of the hills in Rio de Janeiro. Keep an eye on him, cause more carioca sounds are about to come…
Samuel Parrela, a soulful techno mind and heart, carries his deep thoughts and beliefs throughout the project named Menorah since 1996. As profound sounds shape journeys full of minimal transients, illegal passengers travel on elusive notes. Minimal progressions drive high speed as the sun burns the sand under the feet, like a procession across never visited beaches. After all, these roads lead to Detroit.
The brothers JrDeep and Guilherme Lopes that form the Drumagick production team are the prince regents of Brazilian Drum’n'bass. Drumagick similarly re-invented the samba, with a healthy diet of heavy bass, dancefloor funk and energetic melody, and made serious waves on this side of the Atlantic. This culminated in a debut LP “Ai Maluco” released on the SambaLoco imprint (Trama Records) that had been the brains behind and engine fuelling this revolution. This included collaborations with Max De Castro and Xerxes de Oliveira (XRS) and helped establish Drumagick as a force to be reckoned with. Although they have not even peaked with their own careers, the Drumagick brothers are already nurturing their own generation of DJ’s and producers from their own Beatmasters Studios in São Paulo. They opened up a label called Beatmasters, focused on drum´n´bass and broken beats.The nu samba show is here to stay and it will continue to rock dance-floors from Brixton to Brooklyn.
